Entering for Park Safari
Park safari in Kanha is the most important event of wildlife tour Kanha Tiger Reserve. Just like Game Drive / Park Safari of any other National Park in Madhya Pradesh, two park safaris are offered to wildlife lovers in a single day. First park safari of the day is held in early morning at 06:00 hrs of around 04:30 hrs duration and similarly second park safari begins from 14:30hrs of duration about 03:00 hrs. Game drives are conducted on 4-wheel driven vehicles which are not more than 5 years old. In each vehicle 6 passengers were allowed to travel along with one naturalist/guide and one driver. Recently canters are introduced for Kanha safari whose seating capacity will be 16 tourists per vehicle. Kanha canter safari is introduced on trial basis and will be more economical way of jungle safari, suit to budget tourists. Most of the safari jeeps are privately owned by local villagers and resort authorities. Usually safaris arranged from resorts are on shared basis unless you request for exclusive game drive. All such safari jeeps were allotted a particular serial number after their registration into national park management authority. Before entering into the tiger reserve, some formalities are to be done at entrance gate counter which includes filling up of form in which vehicle details, naturalist details, visitors details (like identity proof details), driver details are provided along with submission of government entrance fee. Generally it takes 15-20 minutes, so it is advisable to consider this time also in planning for game drive.

During Park Safari
Once you enter into the Tiger Reserve, follow all the instructions of your naturalist. It is always advisable to keep, all your senses, alert during park safari as jungle is full of surprises. In forest every tree, insect, animal, bird is special. Always keep your camera on and put your finger over image capturing button as there is no scope for re-take in forest. During park safari, nobody is allowed to dismount safari jeep in any case. In the middle of game drive, all the safari jeeps are required to report central-point (Kisli) inside the tiger reserve. At this point, one can have chance for refreshment, buy informative wildlife books etc. This is also a museum at Kisli camp where we can vital secrets of wildlife is revealed to visitors. Here we can see skeleton of tiger, bison etc. It is rest of 15-20 minutes and later proceed for further game drive in Kanha forest. During park safari you may also notice some signs, indication marks, boards having name of area etc. At anytime during game drive, never try to feed any animal or birds as it is not allowed, do not through any litter at any point. Wildlife is driven by their own and don’t try to influence them for sake of wildlife photography. During safari, always respect the right of animal first as we will be their with the status of guest in their home. Game drive is not just tiger sighting but a perfect combination of trees, birds, mammals, reptiles driven by their own.

Tiger Tracking
Kanha National Park was declared a Tiger Reserve in 1973 at the time of inception of Project Tiger. In Kanha tiger reserve, Tiger tracking is done by Forest officials on elephant. After sunrise, we can find elephant and their mahouts, busy in patrolling and tiger tracking. They have radio-sets with them to give update to their seniors, attending their calls from patrolling camp and updating their database. While driving the tourists, gypsy driver and accompanying guide often talk to passing by other safari vehicle driver/guide to exchange their findings and according to latest update, their move in search of tiger. Similarly animal calls, pugmark prints on ground are also the considered to trace the tiger movements in that area. During safari drive, if elephant patrolling mahout is seen, safari guide will take tips from him also as their update is very vital. Using all these tracking tricks, our safari guide will try to track the tiger movement and try to assure its sighting to tourist. But during all this process, tourists are required to enjoy the jungle in full, keep asking question to guide, watching every passing by animals, birds, trees etc. If we give importance for complete jungle, we will be more satisfied rather than doing safari with tension of tiger sighting and taking it as a criteria for successful or unsuccessful safari. In jungle, tiger movement is a natural process and not controlled by forest official or anybody so their sighting is always matter of luck. Our efforts are in our control but not result.
